PRIME HOGGS
Monday morning highlights at NWA Lancaster.
Prime Hoggs to £208 & 507p/kg. Cull sheep to £280.
Monday morning once again proved to be a popular choice with both buyers and sellers who were keen to take advantage of the prompt Monday auction.
All classes and types of Hoggs were in high demand with an average of 385p/kg achieved for Hoggs ranging from 29kg to 58kg.
A super Beltex cross from regular supporters D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe lead the way at 507p/kg with others 487p/kg for D Wightman, 470p/kg AG Butler and 460p/kg for SH & LE Birkett. Endless pens of nicely finished standard weights 400p/kg plus, Cheviots to 398p/kg, Hebridean cross 386p/kg, Mule 378p/kg, Swaledale 374p/kg, Dalesbred 363p/kg, Gritstone 360p/kg and Herdwick 358p/kg.
Making it a double this week was a Beltex cross from D & K Swarbrick leading the sale at £208 closely followed by SH & LE Birkett achieving £207, other pens of in spec Hoggs regularly £180 to £195.
Hill bred Hoggs to £175 for Cheviots, £169 Gritstones, £161 Mule and Horned to £156.
Light weights to £157 for Texel cross, £156 for Charollais cross, £147 Cheviots and £146 Horned.

CULL EWES
A full alley of cull sheep today with a rise in trade for all classes and types. Today’s sale would average £124 with 2/3 of the sale being horned sheep.
Best of the continentals sold to £280 for Texels from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with others at £238 and £222 from M Broadhurst, West Houghton and £208 from DR & BE Rolfe, Scorton. Mediums regularly £170-£195 with the smaller and leaner £135-£160.
Mules peaked at an incredible £204 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with the best mediums to £170 from D Wightman, Carnforth. Mashams to £179 from DR Preston, Caton. Pure hill ewes saw Cheviots achieve £157, Scotch Blackface to £136, Rough Fell to £128, Swaledale to £128, Dalesbred to £116. Medium hill/horned ewes regularly £95-£115 with the smaller and leaner sorts £82-£90.
